Shadow couldn't believe what the doctor had just told him. He was heading to the room where Melanie was; he accidentally heard a conversation between Melanie and the nurse that was with her. Shadow then entered the room and said, "Ok are you ready?" "Yeah, I guess" she said, "Ok let's go" Then they returned to the car and as Shadow drove, he said to Melanie, "You know Melanie, Yesterday I dumped Amy when you where unconscious" "Oh I'm sorry, can I help you in anyway?" she said "No, I mean Yes, yes. Well, I did noticed that you were always staring at me when we were having lunch and I was wondering if you and me…" he said "You and me what?" she said "Well if you could go out with me tonight" he said quickly "Well ok" she said. Then they kept silent until they arrived Shadow's home that probably will also be Melanie's. "For now you will be living with me ok?" said Shadow "so if you want you can go in I'll just call Knuckles and talk to him for a while ok?" "OK" she said. Then Shadow grabbed his cell phone and called Knuckles. "Hello?" Rouge answered, "Oh hi Rouge, may I speak to Knuckles?" said Shadow in a sad voice. "Yeah sure, hey Shadow what's up? You sound sad" said Rouge while getting upstairs to give the phone to Knuckles "No, I'm ok I'm not feeling very well", Shadow said "Oh ok get better soon!" said Rouge "Ok, thanks Rouge" Then Knuckles grabbed the phone "Hey what's up Shadow?" said Knuckles "Not much, hey, would you mind coming to my new house I need to talk to you, its really, really important." Said Shadow "Ok, I'll be there in 30 minutes ok? Bye" he said, "Bye"

30 minutes later, Knuckles arrived to Shadow's house. He found Shadow outside the house standing by his black Ferrari. "Hey Shadow! Nice place you got here! And oh God, where did you get that Ferrari?" said Knuckles "There's no time for any conversation so get on the car I need to talk to you" said Shadow coldly. "Where are we going?" asked Knuckles "Shut up and just get on the car" said Shadow "Ok" Knuckles said. On the road, Shadow told everything about Melanie living in his house and what happened with Amy the night before "Hey, but why is my sister living with you anyway?" asked Knuckles "Well, Knuckles this is gonna be hard for you but…" Shadow stopped, then Knuckles said "But, what?" "Well, your sister, Melanie has leukemia," said Shadow quickly "What's that?" asked Knuckles frightened. "Knuckles, I don't want to lie to you, but, leukemia is cancer in the blood and your sister has only five months left until she…" said Shadow looking at Knuckles who was with his eyes full with tears. "Until she what?" asked Knuckles almost crying "Until she…" Shadow took a deep breath "Until she dies" Then Knuckles felt like his soul had left his body and just gave a loud "No!" And started crying. Shadow tried, unsuccessfully, to cheer him up but it was very hard for Knuckles knowing that his sister was almost dieing. "So I've planed to…" said Shadow "What?" said Knuckles "I've planed to make these last months of living, the happiest for her and" Shadow took a deep breath "and be his boyfriend" Knuckles, surprised, said "But, why you don't love her, do you?" "To tell you the truth, I don't, but I've decided to do it, and that's what I'm going to do," said Shadow "You really don't have to do this you know" said Knuckles, trying to convince shadow not to do it. "I know, but before Maria died, I promised her to make all the people happy and that's what I'm doing" said Shadow, remembering Maria. "I know but not by giving up your own happiness" said Knuckles. "I know I will be giving up my happiness, but I'll also be happy knowing that she is happy, so that's what I'm going to do and no questions asked!"

"Why did he go? Why did he get away from me?" said Amy, crying. "Well, maybe because he thought that it would be better for you to live alone," said Rouge trying to cheer her up. "No, because he didn't left alone, he left with that Equidna girl and I bet they're now together living in the house that I was going to live with Shadow!" cried Amy. "So why don't you go and look for him?" Rouge suggested, "Yeah great idea; but I don't know how to get there!" cried Amy even louder. "Well, Shadow called Knuckles an hour ago and he needed to know the address so let me see… AHA! Here it is! Write it down" Rouge said as she told the address of her beloved hero. "Ok, thanks Rouge!" said Amy washing out her tears. Then she hurried down to her garage and got into her new pink Volkswagen Beetle Shadow had just gave her a week ago.

"Hey, Shadow, What took you so long? Said Melanie as she went down the stairs. "Oh nothing I just went out with Knuckles why?" said Shadow "No, I just wanted to…" she stopped dead. Shadow noticed she was about to fall to the ground, but with his super speed, he caught her. "Melanie, Are you ok?" said Shadow. Melanie was completely white; if she wasn't talking, he would've thought that she was dead. "Yeah, I'm ok, everything just went blank in my mind for a moment." After hearing this, everything Shadow could think about was in Melanie's illness.
