Authors Notes: I've added myself as a character named Samuel. And that's my real name.

Sonic and the rest of the gang left the Space Colony Ark on a space capsule. Sonic was sitting on the side of the space capsule which he thought about how Shadow had given his life for all the rest of the people on the planet. Where was Shadow now? In a better place Sonic supposed.

Amy came over and sat next to Sonic. "What's wrong Sonic?"

"Nothing…" Sonic replied glumly.

Rouge put her hands on her hips. "Come on, spill the beans… We al…"

The Capsule hit the water so hard, everyone flipped over a couple of times!

"Ouch," Tail groaned, "My head…"

"Shouldn't technology these days warn you to put on your seat belt?" Knuckles remarked."

"Wait a second, do you hear that?" Sonic said.

"Yes! I hear cheering!" Tails shouted!

"We are not outcasts anymore!" Amy screamed!

The heroes came out of the capsule and onto a small boat. People from all over the world had come to cheer for the heroes! But Sonic didn't brighten up… He was still sad for Shadow. He had died for the world, but they had gotten all the credit…

Young Samuel sat down on a log. He was a Black and Red Hedgehog of 12 years old and he had dark brown eyes that were so dark, you couldn't tell it was brown unless you were very close to him. He lived with his parents in a small house. His father was a Pastor at the Grace Baptist Church. And his mother worked for the president. But Samuel longed for adventure. Life of the road was a lot better than staying around a old house everyday and teaching your siblings what to do and what not to do. He just wanted to leave…

Just then Samuel heard something that sounded like a shooting star!

"What on earth?" Samuel exclaimed!

Samuel saw something on fire! Falling down through the sky! Right on top of him!

"Meteor!" Samuel screamed and jumped out of the way!

BOOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!

"My," Samuel said, confused… "That was a small Meteor!"

Being the curious Hedgehog he was, Samuel climbed into the crater and saw something smoking at the bottom!

"Oh my…" Samuel stared, "Water! I need water!" Samuel shouted as he ran back to the house!

Shadow woke up, his head was spinning madly! It felt as if he was on fire! He slowly opened his eyes and looked around his surroundings… He was in dimly lit room with only a few lights in it… Shadow's eyes slowly got adjusted to the lights… Next to the bed he was lying on was a small Hedgehog reading a book. Shadow groaned and tried to sit up. The young hedgehog looked so startled he dropped his book!

"Your up!" He said, "But how? You were… Dead!"

"Wha… who are you?" Shadow asked… "Where am I?"

"I'm Samuel…" Samuel said as if he was talking to the living dead…

Shadow groaned, his whole body burnt… as if he had just flew into the sun! He tried to sit up, but his body hurt even more! He lied back down?

"What happened?" Shadow asked?

"You fell from the sky!" Samuel exclaimed! "On fire!" His eyes were so big it looked like his eyes were about to fall out! "Why did you fall anyway?"

Shadow decided he better leave before the kid found everything out about him…

"I have to go now!" Shadow said. Making an unsuccessful attempt to get up.

"Don't! You broke both your right arm and your left leg!" Samuel exclaimed.

"That explains the pain…" Shadow muttered under his breath…

"What?" Samuel asked.

"You have ears of a cat don't you?" Shadow said sarcastically.

"I might, well anyway, who are you?" Samuel asked.

Uh-Oh… Shadow thought. Got to think fast… If this guy finds out who I really am than GUN will be after me!

Shadow quickly thought up of a lie. "I'm J-Jack!"

"…" Samuel glared… "You're not fooling anyone! I may be a kid but I'm not stupid!"

Think fast Shadow! Shadow thought. I can't let this guy find out who I am! He's liable to tell anyone!

"I'm waiting!" Samuel said. "What are you hiding in that little brain of yours?"

What am I going to do?

Samuel grumbled and said, "If you aren't going to tell me, I'll call my mom! She has a track of all the profiles in the world! She's lucky! She works for the president!"

I'm in one tight mess! Shadow thought… Should I trust him? If I don't tell, his mother will check the profiles! And than she's liable to tell the president, and GUN is liable to find out! If I tell the kid there's a slight less chance of that happening! It's a risk but I'll have to take it!

"I'm waiting…" Samuel muttered…

"My name is Shadow!" Shadow replied!

"Wow!" Samuel said. "Nice name…"

Finally, maybe I won't have to tell him! Shadow thought.

"So where's your family?"

"Errr… well… um… I don't have one…" Shadow stuttered… "I'm a orphan."

"hmmmm…" Samuel said, "You are a runaway?"

"I told you, I'm an orphan!"v

"Rrreeeaaaaalllllyyyy????"v

"YES!"v

"…" Samuel said, "You sound like you are lying…"v

"What are you, like a detective?" Shadow asked nervously…

"No, I can just tell by the way you are sweating so much!!!" Samuel exclaimed!

"Umm… well…" Shadow said…

"Face it man, I know your lying… I'm going to call my mom!" Samuel announced!

"Wait kid, you can't do that!" Shadow exclaimed!

"Kid? Who are you calling a kid! I'm 12 years old! Besides, you're a kid as well! Looks to me as if you are 16 years old!" Samuel said.

Shadow made a grab for Sam's arm but missed. "Kid! Wait!" Shadow called out!

"Why should I?" Sam called back.

"Would you believe me if I said I was over 50 years old?" Shadow asked.

"Try me…" Sam said, turning around and crossing his arms.

"Woah…" Sam said after Shadow had told him the entire story about himself…

"That's why you can't let your mom know!" Shadow explained.

"Wait, so after you are better, you are going to run away right?" Samuel asked.

"Yeah, at least that is what I plan to do…" Shadow said.

"Wait, what if I come with you?" Sam exclaimed!

"You're kidding right?" Shadow asked.

"Nah, it'll be great!" Sam exclaimed! "Things are to boring around here!"

"…"

"Come on! Let me come with you! Please????" Sam asked bowing low to the ground and begging Shadow.

"… err…" Shadow said… "Fine… Okay… I owe you one for saving me anyway. But you can't let your parents know I'm here okay?"

"Yes sir!" Sam saluted.

"… Kids these days…" Shadow muttered under his breath…

"Honey!" A voice came from downstairs. "I'm home!"

"It's my mom! Quick! Pull the lever next to your bed!" Samuel whispered!

Shadow pulled the lever that was next to the bed. The bed seemed to sink into the floor… underneath it! After the bed was under the floor, the floor closed above him! It was pitch black down there… Above he could hear Sam talking.

"Samuel," a voice that sounded like a mom said. "Have you cleaned your yet?"

"Yes mom!" Sam said. "I swept the back porch as well!"

"Good!" Sam's mom said. "I'm going out for awhile. Be back tonight!"

"Yes mother!"

Shadow could hear the sound of the door closing and Sam say, "You can come up now!"

"How?" Shadow asked.

"Pull the lever again!" Sam said.

"Okay" Shadow replied.

Shadow pulled the lever and the floor opened up again. And the bed rose up again.

"Nice gadget." Shadow said.

"Thanks."

"So no one's at home right?"

"Yea." Sam said.

"Right, let's go." Shadow said. He tried to get up but he remembered that his arm and leg was broken!

"Great…" Shadow muttered.

"Hold on!" Samuel when into his closet and took out a floating wheel chair. He helped Shadow get into it.

"All right, let's go…" Shadow said.

Sonic sat silently on the beach. It had been a few weeks since Shadow died. Shadow… I will never forget you Shadow. Sonic thought. Why am I still holding onto this… it has been so long since Shadow died. And I'm still holding onto that time… When Shadow died… I have to let go sometime… sometime…

Shadow and Sam had been traveling for weeks. Shadow's leg and arm had heal by now. But they still didn't know where they were… They were passing by a lake when something caught Samuel's eye…

"Look Shadow!" Sam exclaimed! "It's a shrine!"

"Yes… it is…" Shadow observed… "Someone must be there!"

"Good!" Sam exclaimed! "We haven't eaten in days!"

They made their way towards the shrine when they saw something in front of the shrine!

"What are those?" Samuel asked.

"I don't know." Shadow said. "Some kind of creature."

"They're cute." Samuel said.

Samuel bent down and looked at one. "Why do their heads look like tear drops?"

"Sad?" Shadow guessed.

Shadow knelt down beside one. It look at him curiously, and crawled towards him. Shadow patted him on the head. "Hello little one!"

"Don't touch him you freak!" Said a voice said from behind him. "Chaos Zero!"

Something grabbed Shadow around the neck! Choking him!

Shadow heard Sam say, "Shadow! Get off him you blue freak!" And then his world went black…

Shadow awoke painfully, his neck hurt as if it was the fall all over again!

"Ah, good you're awake." Said a female echidna who was sitting next to the bed. "I'm sorry about my large friend, we thought you were attacking the Chao."

"Wha… who are you?" Shadow asked.

"Forgive me, I am Tikal." She introduced herself.

"Where's Samuel?" Shadow asked.

"Samuel? You mean the other Hedgehog." Tikal said.

"Yes, now what have you done with Samuel?" Shadow asked?

"He attacked Chaos here," Tikal said very quietly. "We thought he was trying to kill Chaos… Chaos turned around swung him on the ground a few times… If it wasn't for the Chao you were patting he would be dead by now…"

"What?!" Shadow exclaimed! "How is he now?"

"His condition is hazardous…" Tikal said quietly… "He may not survive…"

"What?!" Shadow exclaimed! "I must see him!" Shadow tried to get up but Tikal pushed him back down.

"No!" Tikal said. "You can't get up yet! Your condition is bad as well!"

"Not as bad as yours will be if you don't let me up now!" Shadow growled…

"I won't let you get up!" Tikal shouted!

"Then I am sorry…" Shadow said.

Than Shadow hit Tikal and lay her down on the ground.

Shadow ended up next to Samuel's bed. He walked up to the resting hedgehog silently. Samuel had bruises the size of footballs all over him. He got this way, Shadow thought. Trying to help me…

Just then Samuel groaned…

"S-Shadow?" Samuel weakly asked.

"Yea dude," Shadow replied, "It's me."

"You're okay…" Samuel whispered…

"Yes. Thanks." Shadow replied.

"I couldn't fight it off." Samuel whispered. "I'm pathetic…"

"No," Shadow replied, "You're not. You saved my life."

"Remember…" Samuel said. "Never give up… On what you want… and I'm sorry."

"Why?" Shadow asked.

"So sorry… That I failed you…" Samuel wheezed…

Than he died… Shadow looked at him, his best friend, dead because of him. They say a dead man looks like he is resting peacefully after he dies. But Samuel didn't… He just looked… dead…

Shadow couldn't take anymore of it. He walked outside… and crouched by the water. Thinking of how Samuel gave his life to save Shadow… Now he was dead. He would have to continue his journey alone.

"I'm sorry it had to end that way…" Tikal said behind him…

"Don't be…" Shadow whispered.

Tikal moved up beside him. "Chaos is sorry for his terrible mistake."

"It wasn't his fault. It is his job to protect the Chao."

"We are both sorry."

"Sorry for hitting you." Shadow said. Looking up at her. For the first time noticing how beautiful she was.

"I've been through worst…" Looking back into his eyes. Her eyes shining.

Shadow started to blush. Tikal slowly kissed Shadow on the cheek.

They both wrapped their arms around each other and kissed each other passionately on the lips.

The next morning Shadow set out on his journey again. Kissing Tikal good bye and shaking hands with Chaos. He set out again to find Sonic. But it would take a long time now because he had no companion to accompany him.

Back in the city Sonic was with Tails at the Pizza Eat It All Daily. Sonic and Tails were stuffing themselves with loads of pizza!

"Man I can't eat another bite." Sonic said after they had finished eating.

"I couldn't either!" Tails burped.

Just behind them Rouge came up and met them.

"Sonic, Tails, follow me!" Rouge whispered urgently.

Sonic and Tails followed her confused. What was so important?

"The GUN is trying to take over the town!" Rouge whispered urgently.

"What?!" Sonic exclaimed, surprised.

"Why?" Tails asked.

"Because they want to have possession of all the Chaos Emeralds!" Rouge explained.

"Why?" Tails asked.

"With the Chaos Emeralds, they can have ultimate power!"

"Thanks Rouge," Sonic said. "I think we ought to visit our GUN friends… tonight! Tails, Gather the rest of the group. Rouge, gather as many Government agents as you can that will join us. Meet me at the GUN island at midnight tonight!"

Shadow slowly made his way towards the city. He took a look at his map. The closest way to get to the city is through the GUN island. He wanted to get back as quickly as he could, so he decided to sneak through the GUN base. He wanted it to be a time when it was pitch black. He decided it to be midnight. So he set foot on the island at midnight. It was pitch black but he knew how to adjust his eyes to the light. He hid in the bushes and saw a GUN officer. Or what looked like one. He was kind of short. Who cares… He's a GUN officer and I'm gonna take him out! Shadow thought. Shadow sprang from his hiding place and pounded the GUN officer!

"Ouch, Oooff!" The officer shouted!

Wait a second, that voice is familiar! Shadow thought.

"Sonic?" Shadow asked.

"Yes it's me, now get off me Tails!" Sonic shouted! He looked up angrily and saw the thing he least expected to see…

"S-S-Shadow???"

Shadow had explained to everyone how he had survived and what happened over the time he was gone. Except he left out Kissing Tikal and Being beat up by Chaos Zero.

"Wow," Sonic said, "I haven't seen Tikal or Chaos Zero in a long time.

"Neither have I." Tails said.

"Who are they?" Rouge asked.

"Anyway. Enough chit-chat, let's do what we came here to do." Sonic said.

"FREEZE!" A voice announced around them!

"Uh-Oh…" Tails said, "We've been caught by the GUN…"

"To come all the way…" Shadow sighed. "Only to die…"

"I don't thinks so!" Said a familiar voice that surrounded the GUN officers.

"Samuel?" Shadow asked, shocked.

"Are we to late to join!" Samuel asked, and didn't wait for an answer. "Let's kick some GUN butt!"

Samuel, Tikal, and Chaos Zero came flying out of nowhere. Destroying the guard robots surrounding the pack. The entire Group spread out and attacked the GUN camp. Taking out what seemed impossible. And letting the rest run in fear. The GUN was defeated at last. Back in the city. A big celebration was held for the heroes. 5 years after Shadow looks back at the past of those fateful days. Now he is a married man. (with Tikal) And has 3 children. But he will never forget those days with Samuel the Hedgehog.
