Chapter 1- Shadow's Decision

Sonic struck the Final Hazard. There was one more hit left, and Sonic was left weakened; it was up to Shadow now. "Sonic you collect the rings, I'll take care of this creep!" Shadow yelled to Sonic. "Right!" Sonic replied weakly, and went out into space. Shadow powered up and charged the creature. The Final Hazard put up its egg shield and tried to defend itself by shooting one egg at a time, and using its two lasers. Shadow dodged left, right, up, and down. Then the Final Hazard did something unexpected, it shot a blanket of eggs toward Shadow. It was too big, he couldn't dodge it. The next thing he knew, he was covered in a ball of eggs. The eggs started to close in on him, crush him, he couldn't move, "It's over, I've failed, everyone will die, I'm sorry, Maria." Shadow said to himself, shedding a tear. Just then, he heard Maria's voice, " Shadow," "Maria!" Shadow said surprised. "You can do it, I know it was why you where created, do it for them, for all those people, who live on that planet, give them a chance, to be happy." she said with an echo in her voice. "Maria, I made you a promise and I intend… KEEP THAT PROMISE, CHAOS FORCE!!!!!!!!" Shadow yelled at the top of his lungs; when he said those words, he could feel energy gather in his body, and he used it to free himself of the eggs, he charged the creature and stopped in front of the swollen spot on its neck. The Final Hazard looked toward Shadow. Even though it had tubes for eyes, Shadow saw a fearful expression engraved on its face. Shadow saw this and an evil grin grew on his face, he cocked back his arm, and punched the swelling spot, which burst under the pressure. The creature bellowed out a painful scream, and its long neck dropped downward. Shadow had done it, they had won.

He turned his when he heard Sonic's voice. " Shadow, we did it, now we can go home, we'll get your name cleared, no worries!" Sonic looked like he was about to cry. Shadow put a small smile on his face, and the super-charged hedgehogs gave each other a high-five. Sonic and Shadow made their way back to ARK, when Shadow realized it was still falling as the atmosphere tore away at its armor. Just then, Sonic heard Tails on the com-link, "Sonic, the colony is still falling" "Whaaat!!!" Sonic yelled into the com-link, "Aw man!" When Shadow heard this, he and Sonic went up to the colony at high-speed in a blasting energy field of yellow and blue. Sonic was now as determined as Shadow was to get to his goal "No way that's getting through!" Sonic said. Shadow heard Maria's voice again,

"Shadow," Maria said, again with an echoic tone.

"Maria!" Shadow answered

"Shadow, I beg of you, do it for them, give them a chance, to be happy"

Shadow looked up at ARK, and got ready to use the Chaos Control. "Now, Shadow" Sonic yelled to Shadow as they turned towards each other.

"CHAOS CONTROL!!!!" the both of them cried in unison. They unleashed a wave of energy that sent the Final Hazard into the deep recesses of space. Shadow unfortunately, lost his powers, but not his Super form, and fell haplessly towards Earth when Sonic grabbed him "Not so fast," Shadow looked up to see Sonic trying to pull him up to ARK with him. Sonic put on a smirk "You didn't really think I was gonna let you die, did you?" Shadow was speechless "Shadow, you've got your whole life ahead of you!" Sonic choked holding back tears of joy.

"I'm sorry, Sonic, but I'm done here, Maria's promise, my purpose has been fulfilled, and I've gained the respect of you and your friends, my friends." Shadow then purposely unbuckled his golden bracelet and fell toward Earth. Sonic then attempted to grab back at him but missed. He stood watching in horror at the helpless black hedgehog, falling to his doom. Realizing what he had failed to help someone who needed it, to save Shadow's life. Rage over swept him, his green eyes were fading, creating a blank, white void in his eyes, he let out a deafening roar as his quills grew twice as long, and as soon as it happened, it stopped.

"Whoa!" Sonic said as if nothing had happened, and stepped into an elevator that brought him up to the bridge. When he got there, everyone stared at hopefully. "Where's Shadow?" Rouge asked innocently. Sonic just clenched his eyes tight, and his teeth with lingering rage, and lowered his head in shame. As everyone stepped in to a capsule that would take them to Station Square, Sonic was the last one in the bridge. Before he went into the capsule he stopped, looked back and raised the back of his hand toward the window "Sayonara, Shadow, the Hedgehog," and stepped into the capsule and went home to Earth.
