Summary: It's been a week since Shadow's sacrifice. Dr. Eggman is no longer a villain and leaves Sonic and the others alone. But a new more powerful evil is coming! Can an old friend help them? Or will the world be destroyed? Read on and find out!

Comments: I cried for a week at the end of SA2 until my parents told me to knock it off. Then it turned into a quiet whimper. I hope Shadow comes back. I'll go crazy if he doesn't! Just a note I made my own character for this story. My name isn't Laura though.

Chapter One: Live and Learn

Laura sat down on a park bench her eyes closed. She was thinking hard. She was a black and red hedgehog with deep green eyes. She looked up at the stars. She couldn't believe that only a week ago she had thought the word was coming to an end. Then she saw something shimmering like a small light. She ignored it and continued to gaze at the sky. The ARK, Sonic, Professor Gerald. She didn't really understand why he had wanted revenge. And who was that Shadow person he kept talking about? She shivered and pulled her jean jacket tightly around herself. The light in the sky was getting closer.

"What is that?" She thought to herself.

It looked like a small figure falling downward. Suddenly without warning it crashed into the ground. Dirt flew everywhere. Laura screamed and dove under the bench. Little did she know her life would change forever. About a minute later Laura came out from under the bench. She could see a small crater about twenty feet away. She walked carefully towards in and looked down. She could see a black and red hedgehog laying at the bottom. He was semi conscious and barely alive.

"Oh my gosh!" She cried. "Are you okay?!"

He groaned and looked up at her.

"I must be dead." He moaned. "I see an angel."

Then he blacked out.

"Sonie!" Amy cried spotting her hero in the crowd in front of the mall. She ran over and hugged him.

"Amy stop calling me that already!" He groaned. "I'm not your boyfriend."

Amy sighed and let him go. She looked up at his face and noticed his eyes looked red and puffy. "What's wrong with your eyes Sonic?" She asked frowning. "Have you been crying?"

Sonic sighed. "Yes I was crying a little last night." He admitted. "It's been one week today since Shadow died."

"Oh." Amy said wishing she hadn't brought it up. "I miss him too Sonic." "We all do." For a moment neither of them spoke. The Amy decided to change the subject. "Let's go see what Tails is up to." "Good idea." He said forcing a weak smile. Amy turned and walked off. Sonic gazed up at the starry night sky. "I'll never forget you Shadow." He whispered. "Never." He turned around and followed Amy.

"Find them before they escape!" A man yelled. Shadow and Maria dashed down the ARK's corridor. "There they are!" "Get them!" A voice shouted. Shadow could see a door at the end of the hallway. "There it is!" He cried. "We're almost there!" Then he heard a gunshot that would echo in his mind forever. He spun around and saw Maria lying on the ground facedown. "NOOOOOOOO!" He cried kneeling by her side. "Maria, please get up." "Please say something." She stood up clutching her chest. "Let me see." Shadow said trembling. Maria took her hand off and revealed a bloody spot on her chest. "Let's hurry." She said softly ignoring the horrified look on Shadow's face. They entered the capsule room. "Stand there." Maria whispered. Shadow stood on the white spot in the center of the room. Maria pushed a button. Suddenly a capsule dropped down on him. He realized Maria wasn't going with him. "MARIA!" He screamed. "Shadow, I beg of you." She said softly. "Please do it for me." "For a better future!" "For all the people who live on that planet." "Give them a chance to be happy." "Let them live for their dreams." "Shadow, I know you can do it." "That's the reason why you were brought into this world." She looked up at him with tears in her eyes. "Sayonara, Shadow the Hedgehog." Then the capsule dropped out of the colony.

Shadow sat up sweat pouring down his forehead. What happened? The last thing he remembered was falling through the atmosphere and... He couldn't remember anything else but the past.

"Well it's about time you woke up." A voice said. "You've been asleep for 6 hours."

Shadow jumped and turned around. The girl from before was sitting in a chair next to the bed.

"W-where am I?" He asked.

"My apartment." She said. "I brought you here after I found you in the park."

"The park?" He groaned rubbing his head. "Is that where I was?" "He turned to look at her. "Who are you?"

"My name is Laura Parker." She said smiling. "What's yours?"

"Shadow." He responded. "Shadow the Hedgehog."

She giggled and looked down. "What's so funny?" He asked. "Nothing." She said smiling. "I think it suits you."

Shadow started to get up. A sharp pain shot through his left arm. He fell back down and screamed with pain. "Don't move!" Laura yelled. "Your arm's broken!"

Shadow looked at his arm. It was in a sling. It looked mangled and twisted. "Lucky you I got an A+ in first-aid." Laura said smiling. "It wasn't too bad so it should heal in about 2 weeks."

"One week." Shadow said firmly. Laura frowned. "How can you be sure?"

"Ultimate life forms heal fast." "Huh?" "Never mind." Shadow said quickly.

"Why were you yelling in your anyway?" She asked curiously.

"I um..." Shadow gulped. He didn't feel like talking about the past or Maria right now. "I was having a nightmare." He said.

"Why did you crash into the ground?" She asked.

"You know what?" He said quickly. "I think I'm going back to sleep now. Ok?"

Then he fell back down on the bed and immediately shut his eyes signaling that the conversation was over.

Laura stared at him. "Weird." She said to herself. "What's he hiding?"

"Hey Tails what's up?" Sonic asked as he and Amy walked into his friend's workshop.

"Nothing much." Tails said. "Something did happen though." "I think I have a newspaper clipping somewhere in here." He began to dig though a stuffed drawer. Amy rolled her eyes. "Honestly Tails if you cleaned this place once in awhile you might be able to find something!" "I like it just the way it is." Tails called. "Aha!" "Here it is!" He tossed Sonic a newspaper clipping. He read it out loud.

Mystery Meteor Earlier this evening a small light was seen in the sky over Station Square park this evening. The object supposedly crashed into the middle Of the park. It appears no one was injured. But when police examined The crash site all they found was an empty crater. Police will release more details Later.

Sonic frowned. "Why would the crater be empty?" "Well," Tails said getting up. "It is possible that whatever crashed into the park was on fire and burned up before anyone saw it." "Or someone might have taken it." "Who would want a stupid space rock?" Amy wondered aloud. "Maybe it wasn't a rock." Said Sonic as he looked over the clipping.
